The Voyage is a delicate expression of a journey using materials often seen as waste but also of memories.

Is their journey circular or landfill?

The Voyage is made from Natural and discarded waste, 2024

In Nature, waste doesnot exist. Everything is used and necessary. Over the next decade, our work isto infiltrate Nature’s magic and to implement what we have learned into today’ssocial community, that is our voyage.

There are certaintimes when we notice waste, at the end of a season, when moving or at the endof a lifetime. This work The Voyage may succumb to all of these. Nature has away of nurturing the soil and microbes preparing, for new life. This workweaves the unwanted with the old, discarded food waste (corn husks, corn fibre, banana skins and a tree branch), contrasting decay with hope, elegance, movement and memories that fill this voyage. These natural elements are thememory expressions of the journey, coincidently shaped as a sailing vessel, sproutedfrom a discarded tea cup from a past century of family retrospection, holdingthe ash remains of a beloved mother. Waste tells a story of one’s lifetime andplaces us into a relationship with time, and an expression of our culturalbeliefs.
